This training addresses common but often misunderstood reactions of complainants in cases of alleged sexual misconduct. The session delves into four behaviors—non-resistance, unexpected emotional reactions and actions, delayed reporting, and inconsistent statements—that can seem perplexing to those unfamiliar with trauma psychology. By exploring the reasons behind these reactions, this training aims to dispel myths, promote understanding of victim behavior, and ensure a trauma-informed approach to handling such sensitive allegations. It helps participants recognize that these behaviors do not invalidate a claim but may reflect the complexities of trauma.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Complainant behaviors that often appear strange without knowledge of trauma.

  2. Understanding the importance of a trauma-informed approach to handling sensitive allegations.

  3. How to promote understanding of victim behavior.
