Our webinar, "There is No BERT Without ERNIE," is designed to provide health care professionals with a comprehensive understanding of the Behavioral Emergency Response Team (BERT) and its vital role in acute care settings.

Join us as we explore the necessity of establishing a BERT within your organization and how it can transform your approach to handling behavioral emergencies. Speakers:

With over a decade of dedicated experience in Behavioral Health Risk Management, Amy Haley, MSW, LSW brings a wealth of expertise to the intersection of mental health and social work. Amy has earned an undergraduate degree in Communications from Seton Hall University and a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from Rutgers University. Amy’s professional career commenced within in-patient behavioral health, where she worked on the front lines, providing compassionate care to individuals facing mental health crises. This foundational experience laid the groundwork for her subsequent role in the challenging environment of state prisons. Currently serving as a Risk Manager with Atlantic Health System, Amy is deeply involved in shaping and implementing strategies for Behavioral Health Risk Management. This role not only draws upon her clinical expertise but also requires a keen understanding of the intricate balance between patient care and risk mitigation. In parallel, Amy contributes to the realm of correctional health care as an esteemed member of the Rutgers University Correctional Healthcare team. Here, she specializes in counseling individuals convicted with sex offender charges, offering therapeutic interventions to address the unique challenges that arise within this specialized field.

Christopher Stephan-Jones, MSN, BSN, BA, APN, RN, PMHNP-BC, RN-BC, has over 10 years of experience in behavioral health nursing including inpatient, outpatient, foster care, child and adolescent, adult, involuntary, voluntary, and forensic settings.  He has earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from the University of Pennsylvania, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from New York University, and a Master of Science in Nursing from Hunter College with certifications in Psychiatric-Mental Health nursing as both a registered nurse and a nurse practitioner.  He is a member of American Nurses Association, Organization of Nurse Leaders, and the New Jersey Board of American Psychiatric Nurses Association. His accomplishments include being a 3-time valedictorian, earning both the Dean’s Prize for Outstanding Student and the Excellence in Professional Leadership Award at Hunter College, and earning both the Organizational Awareness Award and the Center of Excellence Award from Northwell Health.  He is currently working as a nurse manager at Atlantic Health where he runs a 24-bed unit and has opened NJ’s first EmPATH and was the recipient of a NJ Biz Healthcare Heroes award. Chris is currently a student in the Doctor of Nursing program and an adjunct professor at Seton Hall University.

Danielle Fitzgerald, MSN, RN, ONC is an Assistant Nurse Manager of Nursing Resource (Float Pool) at Atlantic Health System with six years of nursing experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings: emergency services inclusive of behavioral health and medical-surgical. She is currently a doctoral student at Rutgers University and holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing with a minor in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Studies from New York University (NYU) and a Master of Science in nursing leadership from Kean University, graduating with honors and distinction. Danielle’s achievements include being awarded the Daisy Nurse Leader Award in 2021 for dedication to her patients and her leadership in providing safe, patient-centered care. She has also presented on decreasing workplace violence at Kean University and Atlantic Health via poster presentations and has authored “Nurse Leaders Need Mentors Too” published in the New Jersey Nurse, advocating for succession planning and mentoring. She holds professional organization memberships with the American Nurses Association, Organization of Nurse Leaders, and Emergency Nurses Association.
