In this program, the speaker will look at the issue of Emergency Preparedness and talk about some of the new scenarios to be considered now that COVID-19 has changed our "normal" in health care.
The more things change, the more they remain the same! COVID-19 has changed health care as we once new it, but the need for emergency preparedness remains consistent. In this program, Steve Wilder, BA, CHSP, STS will look at the issue of Emergency Preparedness and talk about some of the new scenarios to be considered, as well as changes to the ones we have dealt with under different circumstances for years. This on-demand webinar will focus heavily on Emergency Operation Plans (EOPs) to better prepare organizations for an emergency and how to respond when one does occur.
Objectives:
- • Identify critical “lessons learned” from health care facilities that have been through critical internal and external disaster scenarios
- • Identify potential vulnerabilities that may present when COVID restrictions start to ease
- • Discuss the risk of increased acts of workplace violence as prolonged lockdowns continue to take place

Speaker Bios
Steve Wilder has spent nearly 40 years in healthcare safety, security, and risk management. He has provided consultation services to hundreds of clients, including hospitals, long-term care, home care agencies, clinics, physician practices and pre-hospital/EMS services. Steve has performed security vulnerability assessments and mock OSHA audits at over 400 healthcare facilities across the United States and has trained thousands of workers in workplace safety and security. Steve spent 15 years as a hospital risk manager, and five years as corporate risk manager over 15 long term care facilities.
An experienced trial expert, Steve consults for law firms and insurance companies on issues of healthcare safety, security, non-clinical risk management, aggression management, and workplace violence. He also has written numerous articles for healthcare magazines and trade journals. He and his partner Chris Sorensen are co-authors of the book The Essentials of Aggression Management in Healthcare: From Talkdown to Takedown. Steve also writes a monthly safety column for Long Term Living magazine.
In 2014 they introduced their program The Active Shooter / Armed Intruder in the Healthcare Facility: Preparing For…Responding To…Recovering From the Unthinkable. Since then, this program has become the model program for both hospital and long-term care facilities across the nation. This program has been by healthcare associations and insurance providers as the recommended “program of choice” for their members and insured. Steve earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Governor's State University in University Park, Illinois. He is a board Certified Healthcare Safety Professional and holds certifications in C-FATS and HSEEP with the United States Department of Homeland Security.
