Messaging the Business Case for Patient Safety: Hospital Liability Claim Analysis
ASHRM On-Demand Webinar
CE Credit: 1
Domain: Claims & Litigation
Level: Practitioner
In this pre-recorded webinar, CNA Insurance, a healthcare professional liability insurance carrier, will review its recently released analysis of hospital and health system professional liability claims closed over the past ten years.
The health care industry is undergoing a dramatic transformation, as incentives tied directly to quality shift and transparency increase. Improving outcomes and reducing errors begins with awareness of current risks and practices. The analysis of ten years of closed claim data brought CNA Healthcare to the revelation that although the importance of patient safety and risk management has been a formal topic of discussion for more than three decades – the basics remain imperative. Numerous reports, articles, and professional patient safety organizations continue to report that significant preventable adverse events continue to occur despite the various patient safety and risk reduction initiatives and practices. Our claim analysis provides the ability to identify those events which result in patient harm as well as liability exposures that the organization encounters.
Objectives:
- • Examine hospital claim trends related to frequency and severity through an analysis of closed claims.
- • Identify patient care risks associated with select clinical services and allegations and discuss solutions that may mitigate these exposures.
- • Discuss healthcare industry enterprise risk challenges.
