This online course is an interactive and robust walk-through of the investigation process from the beginning to the end, often examining the implications for your own organization.

Health care investigations are done for a variety of reasons. It is, for example, an organization’s legal and regulatory responsibility to provide data to a number of organizations after a serious safety event. Investigations also help us to implement process improvements that control losses from the event and minimize future losses from similar events. Our investigation findings also provide answers to patients and their families. Finally, getting to the truth provides a solid foundation for a just culture that fosters high morale among employees. In this course, you are walked through the investigation process from the beginning to the end, often stopping to examine what the implications are for your own organization. What exactly constitutes a valid investigative process and how do you know you have performed it well? These are precisely the types of questions this course is designed to address.

Objectives:
By the end of this course you will be able to:

Apply guiding principles for investigations for their organization.
Develop an investigative plan that makes good use of data and meets the need of disparate groups.
Respond immediately and appropriately to a triggering event.
Conduct an investigation using established investigative principles.
Provide trusted, meaningful, timely, confidential, fact-based findings that mitigate exposure and promote safe practice.
