Hard Pill to Swallow: Painful Liability Exposures with Opioids
In this course, you will identify and examine liability exposures and regulatory/legal requirements related to opioid prescribing.
Opioid misuse is a national crisis in the US with multidimensional implications for healthcare providers, employers, regulatory and legal agencies, patients and families. The risk manager in each and every clinical setting, whether a hospital, outpatient practice, physician office, long term care, or ambulatory surgical center, is faced with emerging liability exposures and regulatory and legal requirements related to opioid prescribing. This presentation will guide all risk managers in identifying these emerging and challenging requirements and implementing and monitoring critical risk mitigation strategies.
Objectives:
- • Identify the potential liability risks the opioids epidemic presents to our patients and providers in all clinical settings and the healthcare industry
- • Address how federal/state regulatory attempts to curb this epidemic affect healthcare delivery in all clinical settings
- • Apply risk mitigation strategies to improve patient safety and regulatory/legal compliance
