Patient Safety Certificate Program

The Patient Safety Certificate Program is designed for risk and patient safety professionals to identify and apply patient safety concepts to support improved patient care and organizational outcomes. The certificate program uses a “blended learning” approach, with attendees beginning with an online learning component reviewing core patient safety topics before the 2-day in-person sessions. During the in-person sessions, participants will receive an in-depth discussion or review of patient safety topics, collaborate with colleagues, and learn and utilize the application of various tools used in patient safety, earning 18 hours of continuing education credits. 
 

Participants will collaborate with colleagues and faculty to complete a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) matrix focused on current patient safety issues. They will engage in an FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) exercise, review an AHRQ (Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality) case study, analyze RCA (Root Cause Analysis) case studies and final reports, and receive guidance on media interactions and disclosures.
 

Participants will leave this course with the ability to empower their organization's ongoing conversations about the central concepts of patient safety, improve patient outcomes by applying key patient safety concepts, and lead organizational efforts to build patient safety concepts into the existing structure.

Online Module 

The online module will provide a comprehensive review of the core concepts of patient safety covered during the in-person portion of the course. This provides participants with the baseline knowledge required for the in-person course focusing on the application of patient safety concepts.

 

 

2-Day In-Person Module

The 2-day in-person portion of the course is highly interactive, with multiple opportunities to collaborate with colleagues to explore topics is greater depth and walk through various tools.
