This session dives into the fundamentals of falls management and risk mitigation to enable participants to take actionable steps to reduce their risk exposure from fall events.

Accounting for 1 in 12 closed claims, falls continue to be one of the most preventable adverse events in health care. Knowing the fundamentals of how to evaluate your current falls prevention program can assist in proactive risk mitigation and help avoid the common pitfalls that lead to increased risk exposure. This interactive session includes not only information on how to evaluate your current programs, it also offers strategies on what you can do to reduce your exposure resulting from injurious falls.

  • • Describe the difference in fall risk screening and fall risk assessment.
  • • Define the four types of falls and their associated preventability.
  • • Describe strategies for evaluating their current falls program for adequacy.
  • • Describe actions they can take to address gaps in their current falls programs.
